Cobras go marching on!!!

The U12 Cobras won their 2nd league game of the season this morning to maintain their great start to the season. In a tight game, where both teams struggled to play with any fluency, the Cobras took advantage of occasional periods of passing fluency to gain the upper hand.
The 1st half was a tightly contested affair where both teams struggled to gain any momentum over the other. Ascot Utd’s answer to Gareth Bale was a constant threat down their left hand side, and the Byfleet defence found it hard to combat his pace and purpose driving forward. Nevertheless the Cobras always looked threatening, and when the deadlock was finally broken after 20 minutes it took no one by surprise. A clipped pass by Freddie Palmer into space down the right flank, found a surging midfield run from Harrison, who crossed the ball into Harry Toon to fire home at the far post….. 1-0. The Cobras survived a scare 5 minutes later when a quick turn and shot by the Ascot striker called Oscar into action at the front post. Oz threw himself low down to his left and made a sharp save to turn it around the post. The fact that the ball found its way into the net through a hole in the side netting, caused much confusion on the coaches side of the pitch.

The Cobras stepped it up in the 2nd half. The half was punctuated by 2 flowing moves down either flank, which resulted in 2 goals for the home team. Firstly, Christian Castellucci and Harrison linked up down the right, and when Castellucci clipped a cross into the near post he found a receptive head of Noah Thomas, who made no mistake and flicked into the far corner of the Ascot net. It was a first goal for Thomas in the Cobras red and white stripes. 10 Minutes later, Castellucci pounced on a clearance from the Byfleet defence, drove into the left side of the Ascot half, and played a delightful through ball into the path of Jasper, who fired home from close range… 3-0.

The Cobras settled into a 3-0 lead and looked comfortable for the remainder of the game. Reassured by a MOTM performance from the unflappable Isaac, they were unlucky not to add to their tally late on when Noah Kenny had one cleared off the line after a fine chip, and again Kenny turned a close range shot just past the post from a Toon corner.
The next 2 weekends see the boys play an in-form Sutton Utd twice- home and away. If they continue to play the way they have been, then we’re sure they’ll be competitive and have every chance of taking something from both games.

Well done boys!!!
