Well the Guildford City Tournament bought about another trophy for the boys and I have to say that all day they just got better and better.
6-a-side is always a funny one, as it falls between formats that the boys have ever been used to and naturally it took them time to adapt.
The first game we were cruising, but gave up a two goal lead and allowed Farncombe to draw back level.
The second game was a walk in park against Guildford running out 7-0 winners.
And the third game was a battle against Balham Blazers, that resulted in a 0-0 draw.
The quarter final was maybe our best footballing performance against Balham Colts and we ran out 4-0 winners.
The semi final against Guildford City Tigers, was quite an even affair but we deserved our 1-0 win.
So to the final and I warned the boys that if we went ahead against Balham, that they would get physical and they did.
We strode into a two goal lead, but Balham to their credit really put us under the cosh in the second half and the boys were failing to get numbers back behind the ball and so Balham got back into the game.
However we broke at pace that started with Josh playing a fine ball to Zach threaded it through to Max who slotted home.
It was a match of guile and commitment and the boys matched Balham every step of the way from a physicality perspective. It wasn't pretty at times but we got the job done and they showed masses of character, desire and a good attitude in this game to ensure we got the victory.
Goal of the day for me was when Zach squared a free kick to Kahn who slotted coolly into the bottom left corner through a sea of bodies.
So three bits of silverware this season so far, which is a real credit to the boys........can we get anymore before we wrap the season up........this remains to be seen!
