Sunday morning saw the U8 Cobra team up bright and early to play in the 5 aside Sandhurst Town Boys & Girls FC Summer Tournament 2022.

Despite the early start they arrived raring to go and played Old Basing Rovers–Cromwells where they were quick out of the blocks and dominated play to come away 1-0 winners in a quick 8 minute game.

With their confidence growing their next game saw them take on Rushmoore Tornadoes where they were worthy winners with a 3-0 win. They stayed solid at the back and showed good passing skills using the width of the pitch to secure the win.

With the final game of the group being a group winners decider against Spencers Wood Ravens it was another commanding performance at the back with another clean sheet. The U8 Cobra’s used their speed on the break and came out worthy 2-0 winners to win and top the group with a 100% record!

As winners of Group 2 they then advanced to the Champions League group stages where they faced Balham Youth, Mayford Raptors and Chineham Tigers Blacks.

With confidence high and the parents continued support from the sidelines the U8 Cobras got off to a flying start taking an early lead against Chineham Tigers Blacks. Chineham came back strong with some concerted pressure and forced an equaliser. However, this did not deter the Cobra’s and they ran out 2-1 winners in a close fought game.

Next up saw them play in a potential group decider as they took on the mighty Balham Youth who had swept aside all they had played before them. The Cobras maintained their composure and team spirit and put in a battling display & were unfortunate to find themselves 1-0 down early on. With temperatures rising and a few weary legs starting to show 2 late goals from the opposition meant we suffered our first defeat in the tournament losing 3-0.

Following a team pep talk during the break the U8 Cobras were back out on the pitch ready to finish off this tournament just as they had started with a win against Mayford Raptors. It was a closely fought game but with a lovely ball laid off by the defence down the right wing Byfleet scored the only goal of the game & ran out worthy winners.

It was great to finish this tournament with another clean sheet to secure the win resulting in 5 wins out of 6 in the tournament overall. With the only defeat coming at the hands of Balham Youth who deservedly ran out to be the Champions of the U8 tournament.

Well done to Sandhurst Town FC for hosting a great tournament and the U8 Cobra team for showing great commitment, team spirit and tenacity. We look forward to our next tournament in a few weeks time!
